Importing is the process of bringing goods produced abroad into a given country. The different modes of international transport, such as air, sea, road or rail, are used to carry out imports, and multimodal transport, combining different modes, can also be used.

Imports benefit many companies in Brazil thanks to the low cost and high quality of many products manufactured abroad, which makes them more competitive in the Brazilian market.

Importing goods into Brazil requires compliance with procedures before the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) and Customs. Famex offers services covering this whole import chain, supporting both customs and logistics matters. We operate under two import arrangements and offer door-to-door service, from the supplier abroad to the final destination defined by the client.

To import under either arrangement, the acquiring or ordering company must be registered in Siscomex (Brazil’s integrated foreign trade system) and linked to Famex’s registration in that system, ensuring a lawful and efficient operation. We are ready to support you at every stage of this process, ensuring compliance and making your import operations easier.

Our two operating arrangements

See below more details about our two operating arrangements:

Import on behalf of third parties (conta e ordem)

Under the import on behalf of third parties arrangement, Famex, as a legal entity, takes responsibility for the entire import customs clearance of the goods purchased by your company, as well as transport, warehousing and other related services.

In this type of operation, you, as the buyer, advance the necessary funds to Famex, and we plan and execute the entire logistics project required to deliver the nationalized goods to the buyer.

Import by order (encomenda)

Famex acts as the legal entity responsible for purchasing goods abroad, which will be resold to a predetermined ordering company.

In this type of operation, Famex uses its own funds to carry out the import, and a contract is signed between Famex and the ordering company.

We take responsibility for purchasing the goods and handle the whole import process, including customs clearance, transport, warehousing and all other logistics procedures.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between importing on behalf of third parties (conta e ordem) and by order (encomenda)?

On behalf of third parties, the buyer advances the funds and Famex carries out clearance and logistics on its behalf. By order, Famex buys the goods with its own funds and resells them to the ordering company, under a contract between the parties.

Does my company need to be registered in Siscomex to import through Famex?

Yes. Under both arrangements, the acquiring or ordering company must be registered in Siscomex and linked to Famex’s registration. Famex helps with RADAR registration at the Federal Revenue Service.

Can I know the import cost before buying?

Yes. Famex prepares a cost estimate spreadsheet listing every import expense, so the client knows the approximate final cost of the goods in advance.
